1 cup of dahlia

1 cup of steel oats

1 1/2 cup of moong dal or lentils of your choice

1-2 cups of chopped vegetables of your choice

2 inches of fresh ginger, grated

1 green chili per taste

1-2 bay leaves

1-2 sticks of cinnamon

1/2 tsp numeric powder

1 tsp flax powder

1 tsp oil

1 tsp ghee

1 can of black beans, rinsed


  1. Wash and rinse your oats/dalia/lentils and let sit for half and hour.
  2. Meanwhile heat oil in a pan and add all your whole spices till you smell the aroma, then add the soaked grains and keep sautéing, add your ginger, green chili dry spices for another 5-10 minutes.
  3. Add 4-5 cups of water and add to your pressure cooker for quick cooking/insta pot works too, in a regular pan it may take longer.
  4. Sprinkle the ghee, flax powder and a can of drained black beans and your khichdi is ready, pair it with a home made pickle of choice
