- Why did you choose to work with me specifically?
I had randomly happened to hear Moushumi speak on a podcast and had found it interesting that there was an Indian woman who was a dietitian in Michigan. I thought things she was saying made a lot of sense and I was impressed with her knowledge and experience. I remember thinking that if someday I need to, I will get in touch. Last year when I was going through my GI issues, I remembered her and got in touch with her through a common friend. To me, it was important that she was a woman around my age, and also someone who understands the Indian dietary patterns.
- What were you feeling before starting the program?
I was having problems with indigestion, bloating and acid reflux.
- How did you feel during the program?
It was great to have a knowledgeable professional guide me through a plan for my diet. It was very reassuring for me. I was happy that I could talk to Moushumi about my problems and challenges, and for her to make a customized plan for me. I found that it slowly started turning things around for me. I appreciated her patience, support, knowledge and expertise.
- What was your biggest challenge, and how did you overcome it?
Till I started working with Moushumi, I didn’t have regular meal times, and didn’t eat mindfully. After decades of lack of discipline, my body finally protested. This is something I needed to change and Moushumi’s instructions to keep a food diary was very helpful. My other challenge was a more recent gluten intolerance, and all the alternatives that Moushumi provided for this were very helpful.
- How do you feel now?
I felt much better after following her program for 6-8 weeks. Over the holidays it was hard to keep up the program strictly and my problems came back, so I consulted with her again after the holidays and she is helping me to get back on track.
- What is one piece of advice you would give to someone who wants to achieve what you have achieved?
I feel that anyone dealing with dietary issues, as well as other medical conditions that have a dietary component, it is very important to work with a qualified dietitian who can make a customized evaluation and plan, and also stay connected so that the plan can be sustained.
